1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to Montgomery Working Paper Co. operating under Montgomery Working Paper Ltd. (“Montgomery”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By creating an account, loading pre-paid credits, or utilizing our software-as-a-service platform (the “Service”), you (“User”, “Firm”, or “you”) agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you are entering into these Terms on behalf of a CPA firm, accounting practice, or other legal entity, you represent that you have the authority to bind such entity to these Terms. If you do not have such authority, or if you do not agree with these Terms, you must not accept these Terms and may not use the Service.
Montgomery Working Paper Ltd. is a company incorporated in the Province of Alberta, Canada. Such agreement you make is with this entity.
2. Description of Service
Montgomery provides an AI-powered data extraction and general ledger construction tool. The Service accepts PDF bank and credit card statements and utilizes Large Language Models (LLMs) via Google Vertex AI to extract transactions, construct a general ledger, categorize entries against a standard Chart of Accounts, perform bank reconciliations, and generate Excel-compatible working papers. The Service is intended for use by bookkeeping & accounting professionals and their supervised staff.
3. User Data Privacy & Security (Our Zero-Retention Architecture)
Your trust is paramount. We handle highly sensitive financial data, and we have designed our system to operate on a strict Zero-Data-Retention architecture.
- Processing: Data from your uploaded PDFs are processed entirely in-memory on Google Cloud servers located within Canada.
- Destruction: The moment the Excel working paper is generated it is encrypted on our server. The only copy of the decryption key is emailed to you. The link is behind our secured portal and the downloaded file is decrypted locally on your computer. We do not have a copy of the decryption key. As the data on our server is encrypted and we do not have the key, it is not considered financial data at our end.
- No AI Training: Montgomery utilizes an enterprise agreement with Google Vertex AI. Under this agreement, your data is explicitly excluded from being used to train, retrain, or improve any public or private Large Language Models. Neither your input our output prompts from the AI are loggeg according to our enterprise agreement.
- We do not control Google Vertex AI's policy towards this aspect and hence Montgomery is not responsible for such changes resulting in an adverse result to you or your entities.

4. Fees, Pre-Paid Credits, Billing & Auto Reload, and Usage
- Pricing Model: Montgomery operates on a “Pay-As-You-Go” transactional model. We charge a flat fee per successfully extracted transaction line. We do not require monthly or annual subscriptions.
- Wallet System: You must load pre-paid credits into your Firm’s “Wallet” to process files. Credits will be automatically deducted upon successful generation of a working paper based on the final line count.
- Expiration and Refunds: Pre-paid credits never expire. We follow the global refund policy of our Merchant on Record, Paddle. For details see refunds below.
- Price Changes: Montgomery reserves the right to adjust the per-transaction pricing at any time. Any price changes will be posted on our Pricing Page.
- Authorization: By enabling Auto-Topup, the user authorizes Montgomery Working Paper Ltd. (via Paddle) to automatically charge their saved payment method.
- The Trigger: Charges will occur automatically when the account's credit balance falls below the user-defined threshold.
- The Amount: The charge will be for the user-defined top-up amount, not to exceed the maximum monthly spend limit set in their dashboard.
- Cancellation: The user can revoke this authorization at any time by toggling off Auto-Topup in their account settings, and that revocation applies to future charges only.
5. User Responsibilities & Data Rights
- Right to Possess Data: You represent and warrant that you possess all necessary legal rights, permissions, and consents from your clients to possess, control, and upload their financial data to the Montgomery platform for processing.
- Authentication Security: We utilize Clerk for secure authentication. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
- Forbidden Use: You agree not to use the Service for any illegal, fraudulent, or unauthorized purpose, or to upload data that violates any third-party rights or data privacy laws.
6. Limitation of Liability & Professional Duty of Care
THIS SECTION IS CRITICAL. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY.
- The Nature of AI: Montgomery uses advanced AI to automate accounting work. However, automated data extraction can miss transactions, misinterpret details and descriptions, or miscategorize entries. While the tool includes a mathematical balance check, it cannot guarantee complete accuracy.
- Professional Review: THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED AS A CONVENIENCE TOOL ONLY. IT DOES NOT CONSTITUTE PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTING, AUDITING, BOOKKEEPING, OR FINANCIAL ADVICE. You explicitly acknowledge that AI can make mistakes (just like a human accountant). You assume all professional responsibility and liability for reviewing, verifying, and signing off on the final Excel deliverables before using them in any client engagement.
- Limitation of Damages: TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE CANADIAN LAW, MONTGOMERY WORKING PAPER LTD. SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, USE, DATA, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. Our total aggregate liability for all claims shall not exceed the total amount of pre-paid credits purchased by you in the one (1) month preceding the claim.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
MONTGOMERY WORKING PAPER LTD. PROVIDES THE SERVICE “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, 100% ERROR-FREE, OR THAT AI EXTRACTION WILL BE COMPLETELY ACCURATE.
8. Intellectual Property
We own all right, title, and interest in and to the Montgomery platform, including all software, code, Excel templates, designs, and trademarks (the “Montgomery IP”). You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Montgomery IP solely for the purpose of utilizing the Service. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of our platform.
9. Term and Termination
These Terms will remain in full force and effect while you use the Service. You may stop using the Service at any time. Montgomery reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or misused the Service.
10. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Alberta, Canada, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. You agree that any legal action or proceeding arising under these Terms will be brought exclusively in the federal or provincial courts located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and you hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue therein.
11. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of any material changes by posting the updated Terms on the platform. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any revised Terms constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms.
12. Refund Policy
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. All refunds and returns are handled entirely by Paddle and are subject to Paddle's Refund Policy.
You may request a refund within 14 days of your transaction date under Paddle's policy. Because Montgomery WP provides immediately accessible digital credits, refunds are granted at the sole discretion of Paddle on a case-by-case basis. To request a refund, please contact Paddle directly via the support link provided in your email receipt.
