Dear Fellow Professionals,
For me to say I put my heart and soul into this is an understatement. We all run practices with a lot of different software and the number one question I always have is why isn't any of it easy and intuitive to use that a new hire can just sit and start getting work done? Why do we have so much software that requires hours and days of training? Why don't we have something that just works?
The answer is complex. Brutally complex. It is because we all run our practice slightly different with different standards and procedures. Some of us do it this way and others do it some other way. There are however some things that we all have in common. The things that we hate. We hate the tedious data entry.
I built Montgomery for my own practice initially. A shoebox file's major pain point was that 50% of the time spent on that file was pure data entry. Then between January and April you would see the bulk of these shoeboxes arrive all at the same time. I was keeping on extra staff and labour just to have the capacity to do these shoeboxes. As you already know and probably experienced by now there's a labour crisis for our industry, less and less graduates are choosing accounting every year, so trying to hire your way out of all the volume is not a solution.
We have to adapt. We have to use AI if we want to survive as a profession, but don't think of it as a threat to your existence, because we're going to be around a very long time; because AI can't sign off. So let's build the tools that use AI like a tool because that's all it is.
Once I released Montgomery to my team a shift happened. The files were seamlessly being completed faster and we literally freed up 20% labour capacity. Instantly. I still had a labour problem but I wasn't hiring to do a backlog of work, I was hiring to grow my practice. Are you turning away work these days? I'm not.
Suddenly that 50% of time spent on a shoebox file just disappeared. Perfectly reconciled banks and credit cards presented in an excel spreadsheet that's designed to follow how you would normally do your work to finish the job. To be honest, it's not just a spreadsheet, it's a functional working paper. The first few versions of Montgomery did very little, today the product you're getting is meticulously curated and upgraded from the original after using this app on our own clients on a regular basis — adapted over and over again in my own practice for you to get the version that just works. No training time required. Real life testing by real accountants. Needless to say my profit margins are off the charts.
My wife (who works at my firm) said to me the best selling feature is how much work it automates and how it makes everybody's practice more scalable without relying on as much labour. My CPA instincts are telling me the most important selling feature is the "Zero Data Retention" architecture that I put into this app and keeping everything within Canada.
When I say Zero Data - I mean it - We don't have the ability to see your uploaded files or the final output - Only you do. When any accounting practice thinks of a new piece of software that's probably the number 1 thing on all our minds, "where is my data going?" or "Is it okay to send my client's bank statement there?". I am super proud to say none of your files are kept, they're only temporarily within the memory of the computer for the moment it is being processed, and those computers are physically in Canada. It's like hiring a forgetful junior that doesn't remember the work they did on their last file. Rest assured, you are professionally compliant.
You know what else we all hate universally? We hate paying monthly subscriptions for another piece of software. That's why we don't have a monthly subscription. Montgomery charges you whenever you have work ready to feed it. Have 100 files in March? Feed it to Montgomery and pay only for the work you have. You have 1 file in July or August? Feed that 1 file into Montgomery so it's done faster and not disrupt your summer plans and you only pay for that 1 file worth of work.
Think of Montgomery as a scalable Junior Accountant labour source that's available on demand. Don't send your stuff to the Philippines or India — keep it in the country in a secured and professional way — Send it to Montgomery.
