Why We Rebuilt the Excel Output Engine

We have found the accordion (+) buckets in the workflow have been extremely helpful in preparing the work faster for our accountants. Everyone likes that it's quick to categorize and also we like that the AI didn't make things up allowing us to really look at transactions in detail.

This however created a conflict issue on some situations because a transaction in the accordion also exists in the GL. Which one is the final authority?

Another issue was sometimes a client simply had a lot of 1-off transactions, it cluttered this "useful" workflow bucket tab.

What's New in Today's ExcelBuilder Release:

  • Upgraded Workflow Tab Diagnostics: Orphaned 1-off transactions are all bundled together in a single bucket to keep things clean.
  • General Ledger "authority" Refinements: There's now a clear "Final Category" column in the GL so that nobody is confused where and what the final category is whether it's from the buckets in workflow or directly override in the GL
  • Protected Formula Architecture: Critical Trial Balance and left-hand navigation zones have been updated to reflect the above functionality before you post your single net-change adjusting journal entry into CaseWare.
  • Final Authority This means that if you categorize in the buckets it will reflect in the GL, if you override again in the GL after the buckets, then the GL override category is now the final authority, a we clearly show this.

This update is live right now across all new Bank and Credit Card working paper jobs.
